- Gavin Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, has returned to testify at Harvey Weinstein’s rape trial in Los Angeles.
- On Tuesday, Siebel Newsom faced intense questioning by Weinstein’s lawyers.
- They questioned her about her interviews with authorities and the ‘sounds of pleasure’ she mentioned Monday.
Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer lobbied California Governor Gavin Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, at Weinstein’s trial in Los Angeles on rape charges Tuesday, attempting to poke holes in her testimony during testy cross-examination.
Siebel Newsom took the stand for a second day Tuesday, clashing with Weinstein’s lawyer Mark Werksman over their fast-paced line of questioning, which focused on Newsom’s allegation and previous testimony that Weinstein raped her on the Peninsula. Hotel in Beverly Hills in 2005.
Weinstein, who is already serving a 23-year sentence after a separate trial in New York. is currently on trial in Los Angeles for 7 counts of sexual assaultstemming from allegations from five different women who say he abused them in hotels between 2004 and 2013. Weinstein denies the allegations and has pleaded not guilty.
Werksman zeroed in on what Siebel Newsom told Los Angeles district attorney investigators and a grand jury in 2020 about the alleged assault, also urging his Monday testimony. Siebel Newsom told Werksman that she initially thought her claim was beyond the statute of limitations.
“When you told the police, do you think the things you told the police would lead to criminal charges being filed?” Werksman asked, according to the test group report. “Honestly, I was just speaking my truth and didn’t know what the outcome would be,” Siebel Newsom responded.
Siebel Newsom said under questioning Tuesday that she wasn’t sure if she told police that, in an effort to get out of the assault, she helped Weinstein ejaculate, as she testified yesterday.
“Sometimes things are in my head and I can’t remember if I said them or not,” Siebel Newsom said.
“Yesterday you mentioned that you had nightmares. Have you had a hard time discerning what happened in a nightmare and what really happened in a room on the Peninsula?” asked the worker. “Nerd.” Siebel Newsom responded.
“Over the past few days, my client, Jane Doe 4, has taken the very difficult and painful step of publicly disclosing her sexual assault at the hands of Harvey Weinstein. I knew it might have been easier to keep the memory of her 2005 assault buried. but couldn’t,” Siebel Newsom’s attorney Elizabeth Fegan told Insider in a statement. “Throughout her testimony, she displayed tremendous strength and determination in telling her truth and stood her ground as Weinstein’s defense team ruthlessly attempted to discredit her.”
On Monday, Siebel Newsom testified that to get out of the situation, he made “pleasure sounds” and helped Weinstein ejaculate with his hand, then managed to get dressed and leave the room. Through Werksman’s questions, Siebel Newsom took issue with Werksman’s use of the word “orgasm.”
“You faked an orgasm,” Werksman said. “It wasn’t long. This isn’t When Harry Met Sally.” said Siebel Newsom, telling Werksman that the use of the word orgasm was “so disgusting.”
In opening remarks, Werksman said that Siebel Newsom “would be just another fool that she slept with Harvey Weinstein to get ahead in Hollywood” if she didn’t call herself a rape victim.
Werksman suggested in opening statements that two of the women’s accounts were fake, while the other three women had “transactional sex” with Weinstein to further their careers.
“Your energy is so intense, you’re just adding things,” Siebel Newsom told Werksman, who invited her to correct him and said he didn’t answer some of her questions.
