American tennis coach Brad Gilbert took to social media to share his disgust at the news of the mass shooting at a Walmart store in Chesapeake, Virginia. It was the second mass shooting in the state in nine days.
Gilbert, who coached Grand Slam champions Andy Roddick and Andy Murray, called the whole situation “insane” and mentioned that the United States of America needs to learn from these incidents and ban guns.
“Insane how often this happens when our country will ever do something to ban guns plain and simple,” Gilbert wrote.
His comments were echoed by former American tennis player James Blake, who noted that sanity did not win the battle.
“So sad that sanity doesn’t seem to win this battle. Tradition and the law written for the use of muskets took precedence over common sense and saving lives. Many lives,” Blake said.
Brad Gilbert agreed with Blake and replied that common sense could still prevail if both sides agreed to work together.
“It is in regards to muskets that common sense can still prevail if the two parties actually work together to push for this to happen, great, for this to become a reality, coaching is badly needed,” he said.
