The launch of the new PGA Tour website and app, with betting-friendly features, is just one of the latest steps taken by professional sports organizations to strengthen ties with bookmakers.
golf lovers sports betting sites online may have a friend on the PGA tour.
Indeed, the new app and website that the professional golf organization began rolling out last week will have several gambling-friendly features. legal sports betting communities, including a way to seamlessly transition from results review to staking.
Asked what would be for golf loversPGA Tour Vice President of Product Development Eric Hanson described the effort as a sort of “research and development effort”.
One of the first results of this exercise is the desire for continuity. Tour participants have heard from players and fantasy players that they would like their apps to work in sync to make it easier to see how bets and lineups are doing on the tour’s digital platforms.
“Because a lot of fans want the detailed hit tracking and in-depth play that we provide with the PGA Tour app,” Hanson said in a recent Covers interview. “And they really want a smooth and seamless connection between the two platforms. That is our goal.”

Work to seamlessly bridge this gap between betting apps and tour platforms continues.
However, there will be opportunities to go in a different direction. Namely, the new PGA Tour app and website will provide users with live odds during the event (which happens by default on the website), showing what books are currently offering for any golfer to win.
“There’s a lot of overlap between a fan who’s into day-to-day fantasies or gambling and a fan who’s just really interested in the PGA Tour,” Hanson said.
Everybody do it
The betting-focused activities of the PGA Tour are just the latest steps taken by the professional sports organization to strengthen ties with the sports betting industry.
While leagues once opposed the expansion of legal sports betting, fearing it would undermine the integrity of events, those same leagues are now gaining attention and raking in sponsorship dollars through deals with bookmaker operators.
Several such deals have also been made with the PGA Tour, including bet365 and BetMGM. For example, BetMGM was named in December 2021 as the exclusive provider of odds for the leaderboard and player pages on the tour website.
“PGA TOUR has been a fantastic partner and we look forward to continuing our relationship,” said Matt Prevost, Chief Revenue Officer at BetMGM. Press release at that time. “Last year we have seen an increase in our golf bettors and are delighted to be the exclusive odds provider for PGATOUR.COM.”
More information, faster
The PGA Tour said they will begin unveiling their new website and app to fans on November 15, followed by a more official launch of the Sentry Tournament of Champions in the New Year.
In making the announcement, the tour said it was a “fresh start” as everything was rebuilt, including technology, “which means giving you unbeatable TOUR data and statistics faster than ever.”
The tour also said that more features would be added in the coming months, including those related to streaming and gaming, so they would be available using a single platform. But thanks to the upgrade of the technology behind the digital platforms, fans and players will now receive updates much faster, which is a must for fans of in-play betting.
Hanson said that if someone is currently watching a PGA Tour on TV and sees a ball landing on the fairway, that information will appear on the app within five seconds or so.
“We have significantly accelerated the transfer of shot-tracking data to our fan-facing platforms,” he told Covers.
(Other) game inches
In terms of statistics, the PGA Tour was promoted not only by the fans, but also by its players, striving for both more and better.
For example, Hanson said that stroke data will be visualized for players, giving users a clearer idea of how a golfer is trending. And when viewing the tournament leaderboard, the user will be able to rotate their phone horizontally to see more than just a player’s score, including the current score of strokes they have scored in competition from the tee or on the green.
There will also be potential for more push notifications, but these notifications will provide deeper insights than just a birdie or a scarecrow made on the field, for example, a player makes a birdie and gets into the top 10 of an event.
“Golf is a game of inches, so we know that when it comes to loading speed, even the smallest margin can make a difference.” – PGA Tour said last week. “You’ll be able to see Rory McIlroy’s highlight moment right after it happens, relive Scotty Sheffler’s round with an Instagram-style story, or use stats to get an idea of your favorite player’s success.”
