IFC Films Presents SXSW Audience Award-Winning Documentary bad ax in NYC at the IFC Center and LA at Laemmle Glendale. Also on VOD. The feature film debut of David Siev, who moved from his New York home to the small town of Bad Axe, Michigan in 2020 to shelter during Covid with his family as they struggled to keep his restaurant afloat. Siev kept the camera rolling through the harsh lockdown and stressful reopening amid rising anti-Asian sentiment and a backlash from the community after family members took part in a Black Lives Matter protest. Cohen Media Group presents Fernando Trueba’s memories of my fatherwhich premiered at Cannes in 2020 and was Colombia’s international feature Oscar submission that year, acquired by CMG in 2021. It opens in New York and Miami, which was a big market for distributor Javier Bardem’s recent comedy . the good boss. The theatrical release follows a Trueba retrospective at the Quad last week, curated by New York Film Festival director Richard Pena.
